I have a stylish black leather jacket. Often when wearing it, someone compliments it and asks the name of the designer. “I don’t know,” I reply honestly, “but it is one of a kind.” A few years back, a friend worked in designer fashions in New York City. After each fashion show, all of the samples that didn’t sell were literally given away, but only after the labels were removed. My jacket was one of those samples—and it was a perfect fit! The fact that it is one of a kind seems to add to its appeal, as a person’s perception of its value is suddenly raised a notch simply because there’s none other like it. If we are naturally drawn to something merely because it is a one of a kind, imagine the attraction God has to each person he custom-created.
In modern times, we now know that every person has a unique fingerprint, even identical twins! But recently I learned that every human being also has a unique voice pattern and eye color. If you’re like me, I guessed eye color came in blue, green, brown and hazel, with only slight variations; however, it turns out that the DNA for eye color is unique for every single person on the planet! Same goes for our voice pattern. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)
Not only are we each a one of a kind hand-crafted by the Master Designer Himself, God is equally drawn to, and desires to express His love, to each and every one of us. So when God reaches out to you, consider this: from His perspective, a relationship with you simply has no substitute. “Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8) “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!” (Psalm 139:17)

Thank you for your encouragement, Deb! It means much
God loves each of us as if there were only one of us. And there is only one of each of us.
John 17:23 “I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”
Jesus’ words, not mine. When it struck me that God loved me as much as he loved Jesus, I was completely blown away and sold out.
Thank you for reminding us we are all “one of a kind.”
Amen!
